HOW TO BE A HAPPIER PERSON IN 5 EASY STEPS

November 04, 2017

As much as I'd like to give you a secret potion to make you happy, it's not going to happen.   Happiness is a choice; a choice you must make every single day of your life.  Happiness is fleeting, but true joy and contentment last.

I know what depression feels like.  I've dealt with it.  Not as severe as some, but I know what it's like.  And let me tell you, I am literally the happiest I have ever been in my whole life.  I've honestly been through a lot, but I won't ramble with details.

I realize not every moment is the proper time to be happy.  People have struggles, I won't deny it.  I'm not an expert and only want to share my experience, because I believe contentment and joy are possible.  After all, there is a time for weeping and a time for gladness.

There are many ways to be happier on a day-to-day basis, but I've rounded up my favorite five for you.

1.

Drink water.  I cannot stress this enough.  If you drink plenty of water everything will be better.  You'll sleep better, feel more awake, your skin will be clearer.  Water is key.

2.

Exercise every.  Single.  Day.  My favorite workouts include a lot of cardio.  Whenever you feel lazy, run up and down your stairs ten times.  Believe me, it's pretty hard.  You can also look up workout routines on Pinterest.

I also go for evening walks with my family.  It's relaxing and it's a fabulous bonding time for us.

Another form of exercise (well, it's not really exercise, but I think it counts) is stretching.  I love stretching.  Maybe I'm not as flexible as some people, who cares though?  It makes me feel stronger and I love it.
3.

Act like you're happy.  This is my number one tip.  I can feel totally miserable, but when I start to pretend I'm happy it becomes a reality.  Don't believe me?  Try it for a whole day and see how you feel.

When I act depressed, and lay around and hardly eat and don't change my clothes, I feel positively awful!  Wouldn't it make sense that getting up with a smile, doing your hair and getting things done would make you feel great?

So, bounce on your toes, get creative, joke with your siblings and smile at strangers.

4.

Have bible study.  If you don't know what to read, try James.  It's my favorite book.  Pray for a long time.  Just sit in a room alone and try to think about God.  It doesn't matter what you say.  I like to pray in bed, after the lights are out.  I think of everyone I love and pray for them.  It makes me feel more connected to them, and to God.

5.

Decide where you want to be at the end of the day.  Tired and content from all the things you got done?  Inspired and ready to start the next day?  Just, tired and iritable?  Think about this, right now, and decide to meet your goals.

I hope these little tips helped you out.  And just because it isn't morning, doesn't mean you can't start your day fresh.  I always keep this in mind during especially trying days.  Remember you are loved and needed.  I love you.  God loves you.

~ Ella Marie

What are some ways you stay positive?  Do you ever start a day fresh in the middle of it?  Have you had enough water today?  What's your favorite form of exercise?  Which book in the bible is your favorite?  Have you ever faked happiness to make it a reality?

  4. Beautiful post, Ella! I just got through a bad bout of situational depression. Talking to people definitely has helped me stay positive. And I definitely will be taking these ideas to heart in the next couple weeks.

  5. This post made me smile because being a happy person is something I'm aiming for, and because exercise is something I'm am terrible at doing, and I know it helps. So thanks for the needed reminder. And point five is a really good idea! I've never thought of imagining what it's going to feel like at the end of the day before. Thank you! xx

  6. You're so on point with taking walks and drinking water. Those things always help me! And I agree with faking it til you make it. This is something I've heard really helps, but I've never actually tried? Next time I'm down I'm going to try to be positive anyway. Cool post! :) <3

  9. I just stumbled across your blog a couple days ago and I wanted to say that it looks amazing!! I just recently started a blog up myself and you inspired me. ;) I thought that this post was amazing - being happy is super important! Sometimes we just get caught up with the problems in life and forget how to breathe. This was a great reminder, so thank you. :) As for myself, working out gets me super pumped for the day! It's my main stress reliever/happy time. ;) Kettlebell is my main thing, but I also switch on and off with other types of workouts. I used to run, but I had to stop because of an accumulating injury. :/ But anyway, this is getting long so I'll stop here. ;)

Keep it up!! I look forward to your next post. :D

Are you about to leave me a comment? Wow! Thank you so much. Comments literally make my day. To be honest, hearing from other girls is the main reason I blog.
