BLOGIVERSARY + WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO LATELY

by - November 03, 2018

Wow, I took an unexpectedly long hiatus.  If you only follow me here you were probably wondering why I've been so MIA and the truth is, I was majorly burnt out.  Every week when I sat down to write a post I literally didn't want to.  Everything about blogging felt like a chore, another task to be completed.  And I completely hated it.

So, I did the only thing I knew to, I took a break, a very long break.  After the first week I expected my energy to return, to that vigor I'd had before.  But nothing changed.  Not for that week, or the next, or the next.

I was still comparing myself to other bloggers like I had before.  Why couldn't I be as productive as them?  Why weren't my photos as beautiful?  Why wasn't I enough?

I believe everyone struggles with thoughts of self-doubt sometimes.  I was going through one of those times where I didn't feel like myself.  I could feel myself changing, evolving, and blogging didn't seem to fit into my life anymore.

I wasn't even sure I wanted to blog.  I felt that I had no wisdom to share with my readers because I was currently struggling myself.  I was starting school again and felt completely overwhelmed with life, and blogging was another task on my to-do list.  A chore I needed to complete.

Now I've returned, wiser and a little older.  I don't have everything figured out, and I never will, because I'm HUMAN.  I have strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.  And I will never be like anyone but me.  Because I'm not supposed to be.

It's fine if my blog isn't as beautiful as someone else's, if I'm not as beautiful.  Beautiful is not a synonym for happiness, or success or even love.

I'm glad to announce that I will continue blogging.  Perhaps it won't last forever, but for now I enjoy it.

What’s Up?

So, what exactly have I been doing all this time?  Hiding away in a fairy meadow?  Yes and no.

First of all, I finished editing A Summer of Sunsets!!!  I've posted about this book once before on my blog.  It is something very near and dear to my heart.  I've been working on it (physically or mentally) for close to a year.  I read once to write the book you want to read, so I did just that.  It's not perfect, it is definitely not finished, but it's mine.

My greatest weakness is that I cannot stick to something for a long period of time.  I go through phases of everything, intense exercise, painting, writing, knitting, ballet, etc. etc. etc.

This book is the first thing I have ever seen through so far.  My Mom (aka my bff) is reading through it and offering her critiques.  Then my older sis (my other bff) will read through it.  After that it's off to a few beta readers!

Comment below if you want to be a beta reader for my novel!

If you follow my Instagramyou probably saw my photos of the International Balloon Fiesta, aka the coolest thing ever.  I look forward to it every October, when the skies are filled with giant hot air balloons.

This year my mom and little sister went early in the morning to the park, then met up with my older sister for brunch.

We also spent the week at my sister's house, since our mom was out of town.  It was lovely to see her and our brother and law every day.  That bed is too darn lumpy, though.

Last week I saw Wicked, the Broadway musical.

I've looked forward to it since last year when I heard they were coming to Albuquerque.  I've dreamed of seeing this show since I first heard Popular when I was 11.

When the lights came up on the stage and Galinda descended in her bubble I couldn't stop the tears that ran down my face.  My sisters and I screamed after every song, we sobbed and used up all our tissues, and might have annoyed the people sitting near us.

Another thing is that there was a surprise song not on the soundtrack.  Let's just say we were thoroughly shook.

It was beautiful and terrible and heartbreakingly lovely.  Very few stories exist with such compelling characters and complex plots.  If you ever have a chance to see this show, PLEASE don't pass it up.  It is worth every cent.

1 Year Blogging Anniversary

Ayy, it's my blogiversary!  I've been writing at February Fairy for a year now.  It seems shorter and also longer than that.  I feel so blessed to have people who read my writing, so blessed to have made friends with so many of you.

I've learned a lot about blogging during the year.  I've also learned about myself and grown drastically in my view of life.

I know I have a long way to go before I will be a boss blogger.  I'd love if you would drop a comment giving me any tips/thoughts you have on my space.

This post was a little unusual form my normal ones.  Next week I have a great post planned, so definitely stay tuned for that.  😉

Now it's your turn, what have you been doing that last few months?  Are you looking forward to anything in the near future?  Have you seen Wicked?  Or a Broadway show in general.  When is your blogging anniversary?

Happy blogiversary and omg you’re back! 🥳 I took a blogging break at the start of the year and it really helped me figure out what I wanted it to post and if I wanted to continue, in the end I decided to separate my blog keeping my original as an art blog and restarting my main blog over at www.princessemilym.wordpress.com ☺️

  9. Ooh, Wicked looks amazing! I remember singing "Popular" in middle school choir back in the day. :) Also, I totally get the whole blog comparison / burn-out thing. Sometimes you just need a break. I'm definitely a proponent for taking rest and getting offline when you feel that way. Happy blogiversary! :) <3

  12. Yay, you're back! I totally get the whole uninspired thing. It's so hard sometimes to keep writing quality content when you're not feeling very "quality!" And OOH, could I be a beta reader? I love reading people's writing. Again, I'm happy you're back!
