How to Become a HAPPIER PERSON | Improve Your Life Part 3

by - December 08, 2018

“Happiness is an inside job.  Don’t assign anyone else that much power over your life.”

Happiness is what every person desires.  What everyone wants beyond a shadow of a doubt.  We searched for things that will bring us lasting joy.

I believe God is the only thing that can provide lasting joy.  But there are some tips to make the day-to-day even better.  Today I’ve compiled four things that help me feel happier.

Although this post is two weeks late, better late than never, right?  I hope you enjoy, please share any thoughts you have in the comments below.

Week Three – Become Happier

Free Your Creativity

Don’t put yourself in a box.  Don’t make yourself do certain hobbies if you don’t enjoy them anymore.  I mean, you’d stop eating your favorite dessert if you didn’t like it anymore, so why waste time on something you don’t enjoy anymore?

I’ve been struggling with this myself.   I used to look forward to blogging, I couldn’t wait to begin.  Now, I dread writing posts.  I don’t know what changed exactly, I simply don’t have the same energy toward it as I did before.

My interests change as I change, which is okay.  I think I’ll continue blogging, but I may not forever.
I wrote more on creativity in this post.

Don’t Overschedule
This is a common mistake we all make.  Someone asks if we can do this, or that and we say yes.  Say yes a few too many times, until we’re drowning in responsibilities.  You’re a human being, not a human doing, as a wise person once said.  Stop and smell the roses sometimes.  Stop moving.

Dance

Nothing boosts my mood more than a good ‘ol dance party.  Some days just don’t feel great, that’s’ fine.  That’s cool.  Not everyday is going to be amazing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make an okay day into a pretty good one.

When things are going wrong, when I feel frustrated or tired, I love to dance.  If you feel super uncomfortable you can do it alone in your room.  After a while, your family will get used to it.  I usually dance when I have the house to myself, especially since we live in a little bitty apartment.

Just a lil disclaimer, I am not a dancer.  I was in ballet for a few years when I was four and then seven, other than that I have no knowledge when it comes to the art.
Since I’ve started having my little dance parties, I feel more comfortable in my own skin.  I’m also more comfortable moving my body.  I have a better sense of what I’m doing and how.

It may sound crazy that dancing can make you happier, and I thought that same thing…  Until I started it.
Why not enjoy what our complex, perfectly crafted bodies can do?

Choose Joy

When I started this post, I realized that there is no formula for happiness.  There is no magic potion to make you a happier person.  When I looked into my own life, I realized I am typically a happy person.  Why?

Many reasons; I have a loving family; all my needs are met, and I search for joy.  I haven’t always been so content, and I’m still not happy all the time.  When I was younger, I was far moodier, I’d get upset about something and stay upset all day long.
I can vaguely remember deciding, “Hey, I’m going to be happy,” and it really worked.  Joy and contentment are something it takes time and practice to achieve.

Happiness is a way of thinking. Of finding joy in the sunset, your sibling’s laugh, and warm showers.

Can you believe it’s December?  I’m really excited for some New Year’s related posts coming up.  What’s one way you increase happiness?
